I am pretty sure if you grew up in America you have had a Sloppy Joe in your lifetime and if you grew up in the 80’s like I did it probably came out of a can. Mom would brown the hamburger meat and then open that can of “Manwhich”, stir it in and serve it up on a bun. For that reason, well that reason and school Sloppy Joe’s (Lord I do not even want to think about what was in those things) for those reason’s I did not like Sloppy Joe’s for a long time. Then I grew up and started cooking my own meals and thought there has got to be a better way and there is. Make your own and don’t look back. You can easily add peppers and or onions to this if you like a chunky Sloppy Joe. Here’s the recipe.
1 Pound Ground Beef
1 Can Tomato Sauce
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
1 Teaspoon Mustard
1/2 Cup Bar-B-Que Sauce of your choice
1/2 Tablespoon of Brown Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
In a large skillet on the stove top cook the ground beef until no longer pink and drain any excess fat.
Add the tomato sauce, Worcestershire, mustard, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, salt and pepper and garlic powder to the ground beef. Stir and let it come to a simmer on the stove for about 10 minutes.
Give it a taste to make sure you don’t need to add any more seasonings and serve on buns of your choice. Enjoy!
